The Nordmann Fir (Abies Nordmanniana), the King of trees, has excellent needle/ leaf retention and is favoured for its attractive foliage. The needle-like leaves are flattened, which gives the tree a much softer feel. These are slower growing trees taking 2-3 years longer to mature than the Norway Spruce. The trees are dark green and glossy.
Where did the Nordmann Fir trees originate from?
This magical species was native to the mountainous regions of Turkey and Georgia, Eastern Europe and the Russian Caucasus.
How did this tree get its name?
This specie of tree was named in honour of Finnish zoologist Alexander Von Nordmann, who, back in the 1800’s, contributed greatly to botany, zoology, parasitology and palaeontology.
